THE cHAIR

A world for all ages is possible, a more egalitarian world where people’s rights and dignity are respected. The Chair of Ageism (Cátedra de Edadismo), launched by Afaga and Atendo at the University of Vigo, is pioneering in Spain, being a local movement from Galicia, one of the most ageing regions in the world. It is part of a worldwide coalition led by the WHO, whose aim is to fight our way of thinking, feeling and acting with regard to age and ageing.

We must make the most of this boost of a Global Campaign against Ageism in this Decade of Healthy Ageing 2020–2030 to fight negative stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination against people on the basis of their age.

From the Chair of Ageism we join governments, civil society, the media, academic institutions and other actors to pioneer a global crusade that will change people’s lives.

The fight has already commenced and Galicia has thus become the epicentre of the struggle against a type of discrimination that harms individual health and dignity, as well as economies and societies in general.
